Remember back in 2012 when Mercedes-Benz unveiled a concept for a Mercedes-Benz yacht at the Monaco Yacht Show? Well, that concept has recently become a reality. Mercedes' Motor Yacht was officially unveiled in the south of France to a selection of journalists from around the world.
Mercedes teamed up with Silver Arrows Marine to create the Arrow460-Granturismo, 46 feet of floating luxury. The yacht was named "Mercedes" and made its maiden voyage from the Cote d'Azur.
The yacht looks almost like a longer, floating version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class convertible. The yacht is a beautiful representation of Mercedes luxury and performance built for the ocean. It is powered by dual Yanmar diesel engines that deliver 480 horsepower apiece, putting the top speed at over 40 knots with a light load. The tank holds 317 gallons of fuel, so you can cruise in luxury for quite some time.
High Seas Comfort and Luxury
Mercedes says that its yacht was designed to feel like an open-top cruiser while providing luxury and the privacy of a closed cabin. The windows and windscreen can be lowered and raised to block the wind and spray if necessary.
The yacht can carry up to ten people and, of course, a high-quality stereo and air conditioning come standard. But unlike most Mercedes, this one also comes with retractable tables and beds, a bathroom and a separate dressing room.
Nubuck leather and eucalyptus wood are the highlighted materials for the interior design, giving the cabin the look and feel of a high-class ballroom. To complete the high-end luxury atmosphere, the yacht also comes with a wine cellar and an ice-machine. On the outside, the handrails and other practical features are built carefully into the design to maintain the yacht's uniquely automotive look.
The yacht's designers are quick to say that they can customize the yacht for any owner, as long as the designs remain in line with Mercedes' and Silver Arrows' standards for the yacht. But if you want one, you'd better hurry: only 10 are set for production. No official word has come from Mercedes yet about the price of the yacht, but the initial estimates for the base model are somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.7 million.
